The Silver Lake

A musical play performed by the children of Class 3 at Christmas 2004. Words and music by K R Matthews.

The Zuni Indian tribe are preparing for their annual Corn Festival, when a spy from an enemy tribe appears in their camp. The enemy plans to capture the lake which supplies the Zuni with water and drive them away from their homeland.

Little Wolf, a brave Zuni boy, challenges the spy who is taken into captivity. He then takes the spy's horse and rides off into the enemy's camp. He convinces them that they are out-numbered by a thousand to one, and they sneak off in fear. Little Wolf is welcomed back in honour and receives the tribe's Spirit Stone in recognition of his bravery.

The spy, Watchful Fox, has been left behind by his own tribe, but is adopted into the Zuni tribe by Black Eagle and White Bird Woman. The play ends with a grateful song of praise to the Great Spirit, Manitou.
