LAMPS Class 3 Tudors

The Tudor family ruled over England, Wales and part of Ireland, starting with Henry VII who won the throne by beating Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485. This ended the War of the Roses which was waged for 30 years between two branches of the same family, the House of York and the House of Lancaster, both descended from Edward III. Henry Vll (House of Lancaster) then married Elizabeth of York (House of York), and united the two families. Henry VII created the Tudor rose, combining the White Rose of York and the Red Rose of Lancaster. Henry VII's reign was followed by Henry VIII, who was selfish and ruthless, and had six wives. He was followed by Edward VI, and then Mary I. The final Tudor monarch was Elizabeth I, whose reign is known for major advances in foreign trade, exploration, literature, and the arts. She died without a husband or children in 1603.
